About us
Hi,My name is Marga Davis, although German, I have grown up in South Africa. 10 years ago, when Nelson Mandela became President in South Africa, education was made compulsory for all races, to this was added, in the school curriculum, that the pupils at school were to attend at least 4 days within the school year in an Eco-School. Being a qualified teacher, and having taught actively until then, it was suggested to me to open my own Eco School. This I did. Having spent 20 years in Addo, South Africa, I started my school in this little town, known to many throughout the world for its famous Greater Addo Elephant National Park. I became an Honorary Ranger of the National Park, and then further trained as a National Field Guide operating as private guide for Schotia Private Game Reserve (www.schotia.com) and in the Greater Addo Elephant Park. ( La Femme ) These careers/interests lends itself to the benefit of our school, The Stables Eco Camp , where we strive to teach the children the essence of nature and the importance eco-tourism has in our world. My parents, having come from Bavaria, gave me the advantage of speaking German, which proved invaluable to our many German visitors we have in South Africa. A German, private speaking guide, in the Elephant Park and Schotia Game Reserve, was a bonus. It is here that I met Stefan. Having realised we have similar interests, and myself already working full time in the tourism industry, combined our efforts to form Active Reisen. Together we live and now operate our business from Grainau. We drive and guide our own tours in Southern Africa. We offer preplanned tours, specialise in tailor-made tours and photo tours. As I am knowledgeable of the area, we also plan, book and organise self drive tours. Although South Africa does not match the taste of a good Guinness…! I do think down south we have the best Cabernet Sauvignon and not to forget the Big 5...!! Among the things that distinguish us from most other operators, is our dedication to small groups, cross-cultural contact, educational enrichment, celebrating and exploring diversity and environmentally friendly and economically policies and practices. Active Reisen provides a super opportunity for average people who can handle a moderate level of adventure and want to learn more about the complexity and diversity of Africa. GIVE US A TRY1!
![]() My name is Stefan Klein and I was born and bred in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I have worked in the Klinikum Garmisch-Partenkirchen since 1985. Prior to that, I worked 6 years in Lübeck. My love to travel began in my youth. I was fortunate enough to be included in a Himalaya Expedition in 1975, driving through Pakistan under Karl-Maria Herrligkofer, transporting the equipment in trucks. In the following years, I travelled extensively. My travels were restricted mainly to Europe, the Alps and neighbouring states, as I had our dog who always joined me. When the sad day arrived that she no longer was with me, I become interested in countries further a field. I did backpacking tours through New Zealand and Patagonia. Cycle-trekking tours through Norway, Scotland, Italy and Ireland. With the racing bike I did tours through Sicily, Mallorca and Tenerife. I then travelled through Thailand, Nepal, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Kenya and Tanzania and climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro. The last couple of years I
have spent in Southern Africa where I met Marga ! Having the same interests,
and, Marga already being in the tourism business, together we formed
Active-Reisen. Presently Africa draws me more and more, and I can find nothing that
compares to this country with its various fascinating facets, its
adventurous atmosphere and its incredible landscapes. Through sand and bush,
we have travelled Southern Africa, Namibia and Botswana in 4x4's. Despite its
poverty everyone is friendly and helpful. As it is, I am fascinated by
people.
