Elephant : Did You Know....
According to the locals in Noth East India, legend, the deity was reluctant to use his supernatural
powers to cross the river, so he called upon the animals to help him. The monkeys were the
first to offer their assistance, but they fooled around and accomplished nothing. Then
came the bears, but they were to clumsy. Finally, the elephants came out from
the forest and went to the river. They stood side by side, their backs
forming a bridge. Brahama was then able to cross withot
getting his feet wet. The God was very pleased
and in return for their help, he granted
the elephant three gifts : -
The first gift he said was that the elephant would be the wisest of all creatures
The second, that they would know the time of their death
The third was a place, hidden from the eyes of man, where the elephants would
be able to go to die in peace.
