Elephant : Did You Know....

According to the locals in Noth East India, legend, the deity was reluctant to use his supernatural

powers to cross the river, so he called upon the animals to help him. The monkeys were the

first to offer their assistance, but they fooled around and accomplished nothing. Then

came the bears, but they were to clumsy. Finally, the elephants came out from

the forest and went to the river. They stood side by side, their backs

forming a bridge. Brahama was then able to cross withot

getting his feet wet. The God was very pleased

and in return for their help, he granted

the elephant three gifts : -

be able to go to die in peace.

The elephant normally has five nails on each forefoot and four on each hindfoot. making a total

of eighteen. Any animal, believed, with less is considered unlucky, and those with

more are deemed special.
